On October 25, 2011, Kalikova & Associates Partner Ulan Tilenbaev attended the “Capital Market: Challenges and Perspectives” Kyrgyz-Kazakh investment forum. The forum participants discussed the issues of cooperation between Kyrgyz businesses and funds of direct investments that are currently created by international investors? In particular, by Kazyna Capital Management JSC (Kazakhstan). The forum participants have been informed about strategy for investment activities of the Governmet of Kyrgyzstan, results of assessment of business environment in Kyrgyzstan through the eyes of investors currently working in the country. The forum participants have also been presented the information about criteria for projects selection and terms of funding of the to-be-established Kyrgyz-Kazakh Investment Fund (KKIF).

An article «Nationalization as Legal Institute and Political Tool in Kyrgyzstan» written by Kalikova & Associates lawyers Pamira Sainazarova and Magomed Saaduev, was published on information and analytical portal expertkg.info. On April 21, 2011 Kalikova & Associates lawyers Nazik Satkeeva and Maksim Smirnov jointly with the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic (Labor Ministry) conducted a seminar on foreign employment in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic. The seminar participants discussed the requirements of the migration legislation in respect of foreign employment, inconsistencies, inaccuracies and gaps in the migration legislation, work permit procedures, and problematic issues arising in connection with work permits. They also shared opinions and posed questions to the representative of the Labor Ministry.

On April 15, Kalikova & Associates lawyers jointly with the Mining Committee of the International Business Council, Kyrgyz Mining Association and Mining Guild, conducted the round table on stakeholders/community engagement. At present, one of the most urgent tasks faced by the Kyrgyz mining sector is to establish efficient communication between mining stakeholders and local communities. The growing number of open conflicts with local residents requires mining companies to join their efforts and experience to develop general policies on corporate social responsibility based on international standards and practice. The round table discussion enabled the companies engaged in prospecting, exploration and mining of mineral resources in the Kyrgyz Republic to share information about existing problems faced by mining companies in their relations with local communities, to share experience in solving these problems and to identify new directions of the public outreach programs.

On April 12 and 13, 2011, Kalikova & Associates lawyers Omurgul Balpanova and Saodat Shakirova took part in the workshop on the issues raised by the Standing Committee on the Law of Patents organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization with support of the State Intellectual Property Service of the KR (Kyrgyzpatent). The participants of the workshop discussed the issues of concern in the field of patent system, patent opposition system, confidential client-attorney relations, technologies transfer. The workshop was attended by the members of the KR Parliament, Government, international patent experts, patent attorneys and inventors.

On March 18, 2011 Kalikova & Associates lawyers Omurgul Balpanova, Saodat Shakirova, Aisulu Chubarova took part in the presentation of the specialized multi-site web portal (iplaw-centrasia.org) on various aspects of IP protection in Central Asia counties, organized by the open association “Business Intellect Group” jointly with the State Intellectual Property Office of the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyz Patent).
Kalikova & Associates senior lawyer Aisulu Chubarova told about the structure of the web portal and demonstrated to participants of the presentation how the Internet resource works.
This portal is the first specialized IP data portal in Central Asia. At present, the data portal page (iplaw.kg) is operating in Kyrgyzstan and (iplaw.uz) in Uzbekistan.

On March 14, 2011 Kalikova & Associates senior lawyer Nurbek Sabirov took part in the meeting of IBC: «Economic development and business in the parliamentary democracy environment». The meeting was organized on the initiative of the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambaev. Nurbek Sabirov’s presentation included proposals to ensure transparency of the judicial system, to facilitate the institute of private court orders and responsibility of public officials for taking illegal acts, and to promote arbitration courts, which can be used as instruments to help state courts cope with heavy caseloads of civil and commercial disputes.
