K&A participates in organizing of the Roundtable on: “Environmental and Social Issues in Mining”

The Round table on “Environmental and Social Issues in Mining’ was held in Hyatt Regency Bishkek on March 14, 2013. Kalikova & Associates was one of the organizers of the event as a member of the Consortium for development of a draft medium- and long-term Strategy for promoting the mining industry of the Kyrgyz Republic (USAID/REFORMA project).

The main purpose of the Roundtable was to discuss and offer recommendations on environmental and social aspects of mining to be considered in developing the Strategy. Moreover, the Roundtable issues included environmental impacts of mining, causes of conflicts between the mining companies and the local community and the possible ways to resolve them.
