On 9 September 2014 STRIK Attorneys at Law and Tax Advisors, the Netherlands jointly with Kalikova and Associates organized a workshop on International solutions for Kyrgyzstan. Tax and legal structuring for your business.
The workshop covered issues related to choice of optimal structure of a company in terms of taxation, tools for protection and confidentiality of the companies' assets in Netherlands, export of goods from Kyrgyzstan to the EU countries. Participants of the workshop learned current taxation regimes, forms of legal entity's incorporation in Netherlands and benefits for registration of a company in Netherlands.
The workshop was designed for managers, professionals of economic departments, financial and tax consultants and accountants.

Ulan Tilenbaev, Managing Partner and Ruslan Sulaimanov, lawyer, took part at Great Law, Great Business conference held on September 3, 2014 in Almaty. The conference was organized with support from the British Embassy in Astana, the Law Society of England and Wales and the British-Kazakh Law Association.
The conference focused on corporate governance issues and covered the issues relating to sanctions imposed by the European Union, the USA and the Russian Federation, and their influence on businesses of companies operating in CIS countries.

On August 28, 2014, Kalikova & Associates lawyers Albina Rakhmidinova and Azima Bokoshova took part in the seminar on The practical steps toward the use of the PPP arrangements in the Kyrgyz Republic, organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic with the support from the Asian Development Bank.
The main purpose of the seminar was to inform and raise awareness about the PPP arrangements and practices among government and local self-governance bodies. The issues covered in the seminar also included the PPP legal and institutional frameworks, the Project Development Support Facility tools for financing feasibility study and transactional services under the PPP projects, and the international PPP experience.
The seminar served as a forum on the PPP issues for key stakeholders comprising public authorities, businesses, and international organizations.

Gulnara Kalikova, Senior Partner, and Jyldyz Tagaeva, lawyer, took part in the 9th CIS Local Counsel Forum held on June 27 – 29, 2014 with the support of the Vienna Host Committee (Dorda Brugger Jordis; Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer; Graf & Pitkowitz; Lansky, Ganzger + partner) and RULG-Ukrainian Legal Group. The Forum serves as a main platform for wide-scale gathering of business lawyers and takes place every year in different cities. Over the years, the Forum has evolved into an informal network of managing and senior partners of leading law firms from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan, and partners of international law firms from around the world.
At the Forum, Gulnara Kalikova shared the legislative news, told about Kyrgyzstan’s investment climate and legal market.

Kalikova & Associates representatives, Nurbek Sabirov and Ermek Mamaev, participated in the 2nd annual international conference Russian arbitration Day 2014 held in Moscow on May 29, 2014. The conference was organized by the International Commercial Arbitration Court and the Maritime Arbitration Commission at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation with the support from a number of law firms such as Berwin Leighton Paisner (London) and Goltsblat BLP (its Russian practice), Muranov, Chernyakov & Partners (Moscow), Monastyrsky, Zyuba, Stepanov & Partners (Moscow), Watson, Farley & Williams (London).
The main purpose of the conference is to promote the development of international arbitration in post-Soviet states. Among the invited presenters were the specialists from CIS and non-CIS countries. All reports prepared for the conference were included by the organizers in the New Horizons for International Commercial Arbitration, Series No. 2.

On May 17, 2014 in the "Manas" cinema there was the official ceremony of the "Ak Ilbirs" National Film Awards. Presentation of awards took place after the contest show of movies that were shot in 2013 and nominated for film awards this year. Screening of contestant-films was held in Cinema House named after Chingiz Aitmatov. The jury consisted of the famous Kyrgyz filmmakers, members of the Union of Cinematographers of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as the last year winners of the award. Based on the voting "Salam, New York" by Ruslan Akhun was acknowledged as the best film of 2013.
Kalikova & Associates, being a partner of it for the past three years, provides an independent vote count to determine the winners of the "Ak Ilbirs" National Film Awards.

Over the period from August 30, 2012 to March 26, 2014, teamed with a consortium of experts administered by the Kyrgyz Mining Association, Kalikova & Associates has participated in drafting the medium- and long-term mineral development strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic (Strategy). The Strategy has been drafted at the request of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Economy and with technical support from USAID REFORMA. Kalikova & Associates lawyers have contributed to the Strategy by developing recommendations for improving Kyrgyz mining law, including the issues associated with mining licensing, state assessment of mining and geological projects, pretrial dispute resolution.
On March 31, 2014, the Strategy, Action Plan and Budget were submitted to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Economy for their presentation to and approval by the Kyrgyz Government.
