In October 2015 Kalikova & Associates lawyers, Magomed Saaduev, Ruslan Sulaimanov and Meerim Talantbek kyzy, attended training courses on “Management of disputes and negotiations inside of the Board of directors” and “Corporate governance in small and medium-size enterprises” organized by IFC Project on Corporate Governance in Central Asia jointly with Anyk Audit company. Members of the Boards of directors and executive body, as well as representatives of business community and lawyers took part in training courses.

The main idea of the training course on “Management of disputes and negotiations inside of the Board of directors” was to help the participants to develop skills of inter-personal settlement of disputes, prevention of conflicts and management of conflict situations. In the framework of the training course “Corporate governance in small and medium-size enterprises” practical tasks have been reviewed and recommendations on introducing corporate governance in small and medium-size enterprises have been provided.

Upon completion of the training courses all participants received certificates.

On September 17, 2015, Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia held the Challenges of Establishment, Operation and Expenditure of Regional Development Funds round-table discussion within the framework of its project on the transparent and effective local management of income of mining companies through regional development funds. The event was held with financial support from Soros Foundation -Kyrgyzstan and in partnership with the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The main goal of the round-table discussion was to develop key recommendations for the establishment and transparent administration of regional development funds based on the needs of the local communities.

Kalikova & Associates lawyers Satkyn Beketaeva and Jyldyz Tagaeva delivered a presentation on the challenges and recommendations based on the legal analysis of the standard regulation on the formation of regional development funds and the laws of the Kyrgyz Republic governing the establishment and operation of regional development funds.

The round-table discussion resulted in the decision to establish a working group responsible for the development of recommendations for amending the laws of the Kyrgyz Republic to improve the overall performance of regional development funds.

Kalikova & Associates Senior lawyer, Asel Momoshova, participates in the International Summer School in IT-Law at Leibniz Universität Hannover (Hannover, Germany) from July 20 to August 14, 2015.

The program mainly covers such areas as European Regulation of Information Technology, Data Protection, E-Commerce Law and IT Contracts. The primary aim of the program is to provide an overview of EU regulation in the field of IT and to draw attention to its development in reaction to dynamic advancement of technologies and arising legal issues.

On August 6, 2015 the President of the Kyrgyz Republic signed Air Code which will enter into force upon expiration of 6 months from the date of its official publication.

Lawyers of Kalikova & Associates took active part in activities of the working group established for the purpose of drafting Air Code. The project was implemented together with the Association of Civil Aviation Enterprises of the Kyrgyz Republic, Civil Aviation Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic under the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic with support of USAID BGI (Reforma) Project.

Magomed Saaduev, partner, and Shuhrat Akhmatakhunov, lawyer at Kalikova & Associates, participated in the ECA (Europe- Caucasus-Asia) Legal Forum’s 10th anniversary held in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 17th to 20th of June.

The ECA Forum (formerly CIS Local Counsel Forum) is an international legal event conducted annually since 2006. The Forum is the main platform for the wide-scale gathering of leading business lawyers. The Forum brings together partners of leading law firms practicing in CIS countries, as well as senior partners and representatives of international law firms and professional media.

Traditionally, the Forum is organized by RULG-Ukrainian Legal Group with support from BLC Law Office – Georgia.

Kalikova & Associates lawyer, Jyldyz Tagaeva, participates in the Executive Training Program on Extractive Industries and Sustainable Development organized by Columbia Center for Sustainable Investments (New York, USA) from June 8 to June 19, 2015.

The program covers five inter-related areas of the extractive industries value-chain:

1. A transparent and mutually beneficial legal and fiscal framework;
2. A commitment to long-term planning and revenue management at national and local levels;
3. A strategy to leverage investments for broad-based socio-economic development through infrastructure and other linkages;
4. An approach that promotes human rights and integrated development;
5. A system to manage environmental risks and impacts.

The program is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills to promote the responsible development of the extractive industries sector in resource-rich developing countries and to encourage a rich dialogue about best practices from around the globe.

Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic has adopted the Law “On amendments to certain legislative acts of the Kyrgyz Republic regarding the simplification of registration and liquidation procedures of individual entrepreneurs and legal entities”. The President of the Kyrgyz Republic signed the law on May 22, 2015 which goes into effect starting from June 5, 2015.

Lawyers of Kalikova & Associates provided expert assistance to members of Parliament in drafting this legislative act.

On June 4, 2015, the lawyers of Kalikova & Associates will host the seminar for international organizations and their projects in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The seminar will cover the following issues faced by the representatives of international organizations in their day-to-day activities: employment contracts and issues related to obtaining work permits and visas for foreign employees, taxes and social insurance payments, and office lease agreements.

The seminar will be held at Sierra café. We plan to hold the seminar in the informal and cozy setting with a cup of morning coffee.

On May 15 2015, Kalikova & Associates junior lawyer Meerim Talantbek kyzy attended the training course on «Evaluation of Board of Directors” organized by IFC Project on Corporate Governance in Central Asia together with “Audit Plus” audit firm.

The training course covered different approaches and techniques used during the process of evaluation of board of directors. The participants also had an opportunity to apply the received knowledge while reviewing practical exercises during the course.

The participants of the training course included members of board of directors, of the executive body, owners of business, employees of legal departments, etc.
