On March 1 and 2, 2011 Kalikova & Associates lawyers Omurgul Balpanova and Saodat Shakirova took part in the seminar «Protection of copyrights, neighboring rights and collective management», held by WIPO with support from the State Intellectual Property Office of the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyzpatent). The seminar covered the urgent issues of protection of IP rights in the digital environment, role of mass media and collective management of IP rights and copyrights. The seminar was attended by the members of the Parliament and Government and international IP experts, judges, private lawyers, executives of mass media, journalists.

On February 21, 2011 Kalikova & Associates senior lawyer Nurbek Sabirov after successful participation in the IX qualification course «International agreement and resolution of disputes in international commercial arbitration» became a Member of the UK Chartered Institute of Arbitrators entitled to insert qualification abbreviation МCIArb after his last name. The abbreviation is recognized by all European legal institutes as a confirmation of high legal status. The qualification course «International agreement and resolution of disputes in international commercial arbitration» was organized on November 3 – 5, 2010 in Almaty by the UK Chartered Institute of Arbitrators together with the Chamber of Commerce of Russia, English-Russian bar association, Kazakh International Arbitration and a number of arbitration courts of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The significant part of the dialogue was devoted to charity and social responsibility, the issues to which Assol Moldokmatova pays a special attention.

On February, 10, 2011 Kalikova & Associates lawyers represented by Omurgul Balapanova and Saodat Shakirova conducted a workshop as lecturers for members and partners of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kyrgyzstan on “Legal Protection of Trademarks”. At the workshop, there were discussed the issues of protection of trademarks, protective actions and liability of infringers, procedure of registration of trademarks in custom authorities.

On February 8, 2011 lawyers of Kalikova & Associates, Maksim Smirnov, Omurgul Balpanova, Aisulu Chubarova, Saodat Shakirova and Shuhrat Akhmatakhunov, conducted a seminar on the issues of state registration of legal entities, branches (representative offices), taxation, labor issues for the UN agencies. After the seminar, Kalikova & Associates contributed all the collected funds to “Obereg” Rehabilitation Center to support children with disabilities.

On February 1, 2011 Partner of Kalikova & Associates, Ulan Tilenbaev, took part in Kyrgyz-Turkish Business Forum “New Intergovernmental Attempts Devoted to Development of Trade and Investments between Turkey and Kyrgyzstan”. The goal of the Forum was to develop trade and economic relations between Turkey and Kyrgyzstan. During the Business Forum the information on economic potential and investment climate in Kyrgyzstan was presented, and directions of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Turkey were discussed. The Turkish delegation consisting of 150 persons headed by the Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was invited to the Forum.

Kalikova & Associates is glad to announce that it sponsored the research “Alternative Macroeconomic Indicators of Kyrgyzstan - 2011” conducted by Central Asian Free Market Institute (CAFMI). The research was aimed at the study of the economic situation of the country based on the assessments and expectations of market participants as well as factors affecting them. As it was pointed out by the organizers of the research, assessments and expectations proved to be pessimistic and sharply contrasting in comparison to those of official authorities and international financial institutions. From December 15 until December 17 of 2010 the Managing Partner Gulnara Kalikova and junior lawyer Meerim Kachkynbaeva attended the workshop on “Addressing the challenge of doing PPPs in specific sectors in the Black Sea region, the Caucasus and Central Asia” in Istanbul, Turkey. The event was organized by the Secretary f the European Economic Commission of the United Nations, Black Sea Economic Cooperation and the International PPP Platform Turkey. The diverse issues related to the legal regulation of PPP projects and the possibilities of implementing such projects in different areas of economy were discussed at the workshop.

On December 3, 2010 Kalikova & Associates represented by Gulnara Kalikova, Aicholpon Jorupbekova and Murat Madykov attended a mining industry conference “Kyrgyzstan’s Mining Industry Development Trends: Problems and Perspectives” organized jointly by the Kyrgyz Mining Association and Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Kyrgyzstan. Aicholpon Jorupbekova, partner and head of Kalikova & Associates mineral resources practice made a presentation on the proposed package of draft mining laws pinpointing the novelties supported by the exploration and mining companies and those raising concern for companies.
Kalikova & Associates acted as a co-sponsor of the conference together with the Kyrgyz Mining Association, EITI Kyrgyzstan, Kumtor Gold Company, Caspian Oil and Gas, Kyrgyz Chemical and Metallurgical Plant and number of other companies.
