On June 20, 2013 K&A Senior lawyer Nurbek Sabirov participated in the conference “Russian Arbitration Day 2013” held in Moscow, Russia. The conference was organized by the International Commercial Arbitration Court and Maritime Arbitration Commission at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the RF.
The main purpose of the conference is the development of international arbitration in the countries of the former Soviet Union. Among the speakers present were the leading specialists of the CIS and of non-CIS countries – Great Britain, Germany, Finland and France.
It is planned that the event will provide an arena for discussion of the most controversial and topical issues in international arbitration.

On June 6, 2013 K&A lawyers took part in the national conference “Building cooperation between concerned parties and local communities in mining”. The conference was organized with the support of the Eurasia Fund. The main purpose of the conference was to offer recommendations on building and strengthening cooperation between state authorities, mining companies and local communities. Government authorities and representatives of local government and the business sector participated in the conference.
K&A Senior Partner Gulnara Kalikova made a presentation on “Mining companies and local communities: conflicts and ways to resolve them”. Alongside other participants K&A lawyers took part in working groups to develop recommendations for the concerned parties of the mining. Following the conference the participants adopted a resolution.

On May 23-24, 2013, Kalikova & Associates’s representatives Gulnara Kalikova, Albina Rakhmidinova, Murat Madykov and Azima Bokoshova took part in the high level forum «Public-private partnership in the KR: infrastructure and services: from policy to projects», jointly organized by the Asian Development Bank, the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic. The forum was dedicated to discussion of the current institutional framework for PPPs, next steps for improvement of the legal environment for PPPs, the Government’s priority sectors and opportunities for private sector participationin PPP.Kalikova & Associates Senior Partner Gulnara Kalikova made a presentation on «The PPP legal environment in Kyrgyzstan from the perspective of the private partner’s interests» in the section addressing the legal and regulatory frameworks for PPPs in the Kyrgyz Republic. The presentation addressedcritical issues for private sector partner: guarantees available to a private sector partner under the PPP project, corporate structure of a project company, taxation, etc.

On May 15, 2013 К&А lawyer Albina Rakhmidinova took part in the public forum «Customs Union and Kyrgyzstan: Risks and Threats», organized by the Central Asian Free Market Institute (CAFMI).
During the forum, experts from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Russia spoke about their own experiences and the possible consequences of Kyrgyzstan's joining the Customs Union, foreign trade policy and the Kyrgyz economy's development forecasts. The forum participants addressed arguments «for» and «against» Kyrgyzstan's joining the Customs Union. The forum was attended by experts, representatives of governmental authorities, members of the business community and journalists.

On May 14-15, 2013, К&А Lawyer Ruslan Sulaimanov took part in a training workshop focused on the leading role of boards of directors in the system of corporate governance, organized by the International Finance Corporation.
The collection of educational resources as well as the methodology for the use of such materials for the purpose of preparing and conducting seminars/ trainings for persons interested in improving the system of the corporate governance were presented at the training workshop. Among other issues presented at the workshop were methods of motivation, education and communication with an adult audience (in particular, the members of the board of directors, the management body of a company and etc.) for the effective transmission of information on the improvement of the corporate governance system.

On May 13, 2013 K&A lawyers took part in the book drive campaign “Donate a Book to a Rural Library”. The campaign was organized by the Hyatt Regency Bishkek and the Kyrgyz National Library. K&A lawyers, realizing the value of books and their enormous impact on children’s development, collected more than 80 books of various genres. All books were handed over to the Hyatt for their further delivery to rural libraries.
We hope that our small contribution will help children achieve their personal development goals and expand their educational horizons.

On March 15, 2013 K&A Managing Partner Ulan Tilenbaev took part in the Kyrgyz-Austrian business forum participated by the Head of States of Kyrgyz and Austrian Republics. Ulan Tilenbaev made a presentation on: “Business in the Kyrgyz Republic: Legal Aspects” which included topical issues in connection with the starting and running a business, licensing, land use, taxation and investment guarantees.

The Round table on “Environmental and Social Issues in Mining’ was held in Hyatt Regency Bishkek on March 14, 2013. Kalikova & Associates was one of the organizers of the event as a member of the Consortium for development of a draft medium- and long-term Strategy for promoting the mining industry of the Kyrgyz Republic (USAID/REFORMA project).
The main purpose of the Roundtable was to discuss and offer recommendations on environmental and social aspects of mining to be considered in developing the Strategy. Moreover, the Roundtable issues included environmental impacts of mining, causes of conflicts between the mining companies and the local community and the possible ways to resolve them.

From February 20 to March 12, 2013, K&A lawyers Magomed Saaduev, Ruslan Sulaimanov and Shukhrat Akhmatakhunov participated in a two-week capital markets training course with primary focus on the legal aspects of joint stock companies, investment funds, public offerings, professional market participants and corporate governance. Upon its completion, the lawyers were awarded the Kyrgyz Stock Exchange certificates which would allow them to take the FSA’s securities licensing exam and after having successfully passed it, to act as a broker or dealer.
